Named after the grandest of the New Hampshire White Mountains, The Mount Washington epitomized the steamboat era of Lake Winnipesaukee. Built in 1872 for a whopping $62,000, The Mount served the people of Lake Winnipesaukee continuously and faithfully for 67 years. On the night of December 23, 1939, a dock fire on the Wiers ravaged the Mount Washington. The passing of the Mount also proved to be the passing of steam navigation on Lake Winnipesaukee.
